Advantage Man Utd as giants accept target’s head has been turned

Real Madrid are reportedly well aware that Manchester United target Raphael Varane “has a better offer from elsewhere”.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be looking to add another defender to his squad even though Eric Bailly extended his deal recently. Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Lille’s Sven Botman have both been mentioned as targets for United but Varane is understood to be the man United want.

Real Madrid star Varane is one player who is available this summer. His contract runs out next summer, but there is a growing uncertainty over whether he will extend.

The Manchester Evening News claimed recently that the France international feels there is a discrepancy between his salary offer and his colleagues’ wages.

Therefore, the newspaper adds that United and Liverpool are a number of clubs holding ‘exploratory’ talks with the 28-year-old’s entourage.

And now Marca via the Daily Express say Los Blancos are seemingly accepting of the fact Varane has had his head turned and will not sign an extension with the club.

Real are apparently aware Varane has a better offer on the table than the money they are prepared to offer him. The Spanish outlet though do not state whether the club in question are United.

The Mirror reported recently that United were pondering a £40m offer. Now though Marca insist Real would only be willing to accept a fee of between £51.6m and £60.2m.

Real chief Florentino Perez hinted Varane was unhappy last month.

He told EL Larguero: “I’m happy of our team. We have a great defence, a great midfield, but yes we have to do something in the attack.

“[Varane?] If players don’t want to stay at Madrid they can leave.”

Varane not thinking beyond this season

Varane though refused to be drawn on his future last month.

“I am focused on the end of the season,” said Varane. “If I have a message to the fans it’s that my commitment is 100 per cent with the team and I’ll give it my best.

“We have a quite exciting end to the season, beautiful challenges that motivate us a lot. And I’m focused on giving it my best on the field.

“My future is clear. I am focused on the end of this season. We are in a very intense and key moment.

“It is normal that my focus is on the end of the season. The message to the fans is that I am 100 per cent committed to the team.

“We have challenges that encourage us a lot. I am focused on giving everything on the field.”
