Aguero’s father slates Guardiola – he ‘never wanted’ Kun at Man City

Sergio Aguero’s father has launched an astonishing attack on Pep Guardiola, claiming the manager shed false tears when the striker left the club.

Aguero departed the Etihad Stadium last month after ten stunning years at the club. The Argentina international claimed five Premier League titles, six EFL Cups and one FA Cup during a stellar decade. He rounded off his league career in style, netting a quick-fire second-half brace against Brighton in the season finale.

The South American was unable to lift the Champions League trophy as the Citizens were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in Porto. But Aguero has left his mark on the blue half of Manchester and walks away as the club’s record goalscorer.

He has now joined Barcelona on a two-year deal and has the chance to play alongside compatriot Lionel Messi. And, after watching the former Atletico Madrid ace bag twice against the Seagulls, Guardiola paid an emotional tribute.

“Sergio is irreplaceable. I could say in terms of numbers he could be replaceable but it’s not easy,” he said. “When you see around 360 games and more than 250 goals, the amount of titles.

“He’s a legend, the best striker I ever had at this club. But he’s irreplaceable in the mind for our fans, to our people and to the players that played alongside him or the manager who worked with him.”

Aguero senior no fan of Pep

Guardiola is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the world. He has been successful everywhere he has worked, winning La Liga three times at Barca while claiming two Champions League crowns.

Success followed at Bayern Munich and he has written himself into City folklore with three titles in four years. But that does not do it for Leonel del Castillo, who pulled no punches in his assessment of the Spaniard.

“I don’t believe his tears,” Aguero’s dad told A Radio La Red, via TYC Sports. “For me, he never wanted Kun. He always wants to be the main man and not the players.

“I don’t believe [in] Guardiola. He never wanted it [the CL trophy], he wants to be the protagonist of all the teams. He says that he Aguero is irreplaceable and he does not have him in the squad.

“There are things about Guardiola, he is a great coach. But from one day to the next the players change you, the environment changes. You never know if you are a starter or not.”
