Alexander-Arnold reveals tactical tweak that has brought Liverpool back to life

Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed the tactical tweak that Liverpool have made this season to bring them back to their all-conquering 2019-20 form.

The Reds full-back has been in supreme form at the start of the new campaign, rekindling his deadly partnership with Mo Salah down the right-hand side. Indeed, the latter has been back to his brilliant best – joining the discussion for the world’s best player in the process.

As for Alexander-Arnold, the England man already has three assists this season and has revealed Jurgen Klopp’s instructions on Liverpool’s method of play this season.

“It’s just playing with freedom, to be honest – especially more this season,” Alexander-Arnold explained in an interview with Liverpoolfc.com.

“Not that there were really any shackles on, but the shackles have come off for us. It’s kind of just flowed really.

“There’s no real instructions, we understand there’s principles to our game and where to be when the ball’s on the other side and things like that.

“But when it comes over to us then we’ve kind of been given licence to just enjoy ourselves, go and create things, go and attack, go and cause problems for the opposition.

“Just rotating, causing headaches for the opposition and just finding myself in positions where I can hurt the opposition and create chances for the team.”

Klopp reveals Salah hopes

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that he hopes Mohamed Salah can continue to deliver for the Reds in the future, amid uncertainty over his contract.

The Egyptian is edging towards the final two years of his current deal at Anfield. While that would represent a great deal of time to sort out his situation, negotiations are proving tough.

Salah reportedly wants £400,000 per week in his new terms. And handing him those figures after 12 goals in 11 games this term would prove an easy decision to make.

However, the club’s owners fear a drop-off in form from Salah in his thirties. Given how shrewd Fenway Sports Group have been, they fear a lack of return from such a sizeable investment.

Still, Klopp does not harbour such concerns and compared his professionalism to that of Cristiano Ronaldo.

“You need luck, because things can happen with injuries and so on,” the manager told the Liverpool Echo. “But I think the professionalism of both Mo and Cristiano is the one thing you can compare 100 per cent.

“It is probably the same. Mo is incredibly professional. He is really the first one in and very often the last out of all the players.

“He is constantly interested in all the things he can do and has to do to keep or improve the standard. I think he still has a lot to give, 100 per cent.

“It helps him for sure and the team he is playing for them as well and I hope it is for us [in the future].”
