Ancelotti move threatens to put sensational Man Utd transfer plan in ruin

Newly-appointed Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti could scupper Manchester United’s prospects of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo, a report claims.

Ancelotti made the shock move to leave Everton on Tuesday in favour of a second spell with Los Blancos. Indeed, the Italian promised earlier this year to be around to manage the Toffees at their new stadium. But he admitted in a statement that he could not turn down the “unexpected” opportunity.

Madrid can now focus on their summer recruitment having replaced the outgoing Zinedine Zidane.

According to Corrierre dello Sport (via Sport Witness), one of Ancelotti’s’ big moves could be to bring Ronaldo back to the club.

The report claims that while Madrid have made no concrete approach for the Portuguese, the ‘hypothesis’ is at play.

What’s more, Ronaldo’s return could end United‘s supposed hopes of landing their former star.

Tuttosport claimed that Old Trafford seems the most likely next destination for the forward, who is believed to have grown unsettled at Juventus.

Indeed, the 36-year-old only has a year left on his contract and so could be on the move this summer. Ronaldo also reportedly feels ‘tempted’ by the prospect of a sensational United comeback.

Tuttosport added last weekend that the Red Devils could sanction a swap deal including one of their prized midfielders.

Should Ronaldo move back to Madrid, though, he would be reuniting with a manager who brought out some of his best form.

The forward scored 112 goals for the Spanish giants in the 110 games in which he played under Ancelotti’s management.

As for Everton, the hunt is now on for a replacement ahead of what will prove a crucial summer transfer window after a 10th-placed Premier League finish.

Man Utd hit transfer roadblock

Meanwhile, the right side of attack remains an area of priority for Man Utd this summer.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho looks, once again, like being the club’s top target in that area.

An agreement in principle has reportedly been agreed with the England international, but a similar roadblock has been hit by football director John Murtough.
