Antonio Conte has made an ‘explicit request’ for Tottenham to go back in for the signing of Weston McKennie, according to a report.
Tottenham pursued the Juventus midfielder last summer and in January but were unable to agree a deal for him. They did, however, bring in Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from the Italian giants.
Those two players are enjoying their time under Conte in north London. Kulusevski is effective alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son in attack, while Bentancur is strengthening Tottenham’s midfield.
Club chairman Daniel Levy is likely to make Kulusevski’s loan deal a permanent one in the summer. It will cost around £29million.
Bentancur’s future is already resolved after he penned a four-year contract when joining.
Conte clearly wants Tottenham to repeat that transfer success later this year. And McKennie is one of the targets he has in mind.
Conte ‘requests’ Weston McKennie signing
According to Sport Witness, who cite Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Conte has made an ‘explicit request’ for Spurs to land the USA international.
And a raid on Juventus could go ahead as Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici is keen to ‘satisfy’ the manager’s demands. Such a transfer may just help to keep Conte at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ready for next season.
However, it will not be easy for Spurs to capture McKennie. The 23-year-old is part of Max Allegri’s plans at the Allianz Stadium.
Retaining him could become even more important if Aaron Ramsey makes his loan switch to Rangers a long-term move.
Allegri has given McKennie 28 appearances this term, and the star has found the net four times in that period.
But he will not feature for the remainder of the campaign after suffering a broken foot in February.
McKennie is hoping to recover in time for Juve’s pre-season camp ready for the 2022-23 campaign. And Sport Witness claim he will given regular starts by Allegri upon his return.
This means Spurs will need to come forward with a lucrative offer if they are to tempt Juve into a sale.
