Arsenal at front of queue for Bellerin replacement also wanted by Everton

Arsenal are the favourites to sign Emerson Royal from Barcelona, but face competition from Everton, according to reports.

Emerson is currently at Real Betis as part of a deal with Barcelona but will return to Camp Nou in the summer. It is unlikely he will be guaranteed a regular role but he is confident of making an impact. If he is told he is not in their plans, though, he will have to find a solution.

That solution could be to move to the Premier League. Emerson has interest from Arsenal and Everton, according to Diario Sport.

Arsenal are currently in pole position, because they have identified Emerson as a replacement for Hector Bellerin. The long-serving Spaniard might depart the Emirates Stadium this summer, leaving them in need of a new reinforcement.

Emerson is someone who could plug the gap and Arsenal have indeed been interested for a few months. It could now be time for them to strike.

The Brazilian would like to move to the Premier League if he cannot make it at Barcelona. Arsenal and Everton will be happy to hear that as they consider making bids.

It remains to be seen how much he might cost, but at the age of 22, he would be a long-term investment.

From 33 La Liga appearances this season, he has provided one goal and four assists. Betis are on course to qualify for the Europa League, thanks in part to his efforts.

But he will be bidding them farewell in the summer and might say goodbye to La Liga altogether.

Tottenham linked with Emerson

The report makes no mention of Tottenham, who have previously been tipped to rival Arsenal for Emerson.

Estadio Deportivo claimed last month that Spurs were ready to battle for the wing-back. At the time, there was talk of a €25m price tag.

PSG, Inter and AC Milan were all also mentioned as competitors but now it seems Arsenal and Everton are leading the charge.
