Arsenal exodus to continue as plans change for major flop with bids awaited

Willian will be leaving Arsenal after just one season and is awaiting offers from abroad, according to reports.

It will be a summer of change at Arsenal as they look to make the right adjustments to their squad. Their Premier League form this season has not been good enough and they need to shake things up. As well as targeting new players, they must get rid of some of the underperformers who are draining their wage bill.

It recently emerged that David Luiz would be leaving the club at the end of the season. The defender is reported to have held talks with the club on Friday, confirming he will look for a new adventure.

But he might not be the only Brazilian to exit the Emirates Stadium. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Willian will also be on his way out.

The winger signed a three-year contract when he joined from Chelsea last summer. But the move has not gone to plan and they could now go their separate ways.

Willian finally scored his first Arsenal goal last week but it has been too little, too late. For a player of his salary, the end product has not been enough.

Hence, Romano claims that the Gunners are “waiting for official bids”. There is apparently interest from the MLS and some clubs in Europe.

The identity of those specific clubs is unclear, but Inter Miami were interested last summer, for example. Arsenal will have to wait and see who makes a bid.

The news marks a change compared to what Willian said last month. He indicated he would see out the remaining two years of his contract in north London.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official matchday programme, Willian said: “Well, my plan is to stay at Arsenal, I have a contract here, and to win trophies.

“I have two more years here and my plan is to stay and be successful, to play and win something with the club.

“I still want to achieve a lot of things. Want to win more trophies, and I want to be at the next World Cup.

“I’ll do my best to be there. But, yeah, I want to lift trophies for Arsenal – I have a lot of things in my mind that I want to achieve.

“I want to win as much as I can with the team, and go back to the national team as well.”

It seems those plans may be changing, though, and he will leave without getting his hands on a trophy with the club.

Ex-Gunner would love return

If Willian leaves, Arsenal will need to find someone who can be more reliable in the creativity department.

Youngsters Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka have shown the way forward, but the latest report from the Express reveals the possibility of bringing back a veteran once highly rated at Arsenal.

Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey is the man in question, with the newspaper citing Romano in the process.

He is revealed to have told The Arsenal Lounge of Ramsey’s impending availability with current club Juventus seemingly intent on selling.

What’s more, Ramsey would reportedly “love” to call the Emirates his home once more.

“Aaron Ramsey would love to join Arsenal again,” said Romano. “At Juventus he is struggling, he’s not playing, many injuries.

“He will be on the market 100 percent, he will be available. If Arsenal want to go for Ramsey, they know they have the chance.

“But at the moment there’s nothing advanced or serious with Ramsey yet.”
