Arsenal are frantically trying to put a deal together to land Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, claims a report.
With Tuesday’s 11pm deadline closing in the Gunners are understood to be pressing hard for a transfer for the 22-year-old.
David Ornstein from The Athletic reports that Arsenal are “working on a deal” to land the Japan international. However, a move will be dependant on other transfer activity at the Serie A club.
That could well mean that a last-ditch move could be out of Arsenal’s control, despite all their best efforts.
Tomiyasu, who made his first appearance of the season for Bologna on Saturday, as a late sub, had been interesting Tottenham.
Spurs had made enquiries for the defender, who can play at right-back or centre-back.
And late last week Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph said it “remains possible” that Tomiyasu could join Tottenham before the transfer deadline.
McGrath claimed that the reason previous talks between the two clubs stalled was a disagreement over the structure of a £17m deal.
But things never broke down entirely and Tomiyasu remained on Tottenham’s radar.
The Corriere dello Sport still suggests Bologna are waiting for the “right offer” from Spurs.
Tomiyasu, for his part, “would gladly” accept the chance to play in England.
Spurs switch to Emerson Royal
However, Spurs’ pursuit of Emerson Royal appears to have now opened the door for Arsenal to move for Tomiyasu.
Tottenham have agreed a fee with Barcelona for right-back Emerson Royal.
The 22-year-old is undergoing a medical and Spurs hope to tie up deal which the PA news agency understands is worth £25.75m.
The London club are looking to ship out right-back Serge Aurier.
But Tanguy Ndombele will remain at Tottenham after the transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports.
Both parties had been keen to part ways. But a suitable deal has not been forthcoming and so the midfielder will stay with the club, at lest until January.
