Arsenal join the hunt for prolific forward after report details ‘concrete interest’

Arsenal are the latest team to throw their hat in the ring for Lautaro Martinez, as they reportedly have ‘concrete interest’ in the Inter Milan star.

Martinez has shown himself to be one of the best forwards in Europe of late. The Inter Milan striker has scored 15 league goals this term, making him the fourth-highest goalscorer in Serie A.

In 173 games for Inter, Martinez has scored 66 goals and provided 23 assists. He has piqued the interest of a lot of big hitters recently.

Liverpool have been linked, and there has also been noise regarding a move to Tottenham. Similarly, Arsenal have previously been linked with a move for the forward.

Those links appear to be true, as FC Inter News states that the Gunners have ‘concrete interest’ in the Argentine.

They are not the only side mentioned in that report. Atletico Madrid are in the same category as Arsenal regarding their interest being concrete.

The report mentions a third side – Barcelona. However, a deal to take Martinez to the Camp Nou would reportedly not only be cash, but would involve some fringe players.

As such, there is apparently ‘no way’ that transfer will happen. Arsenal and Atletico appear to be leading the pack, at least in terms of those teams.

That is because they have already moved beyond vague interest and fully thrown their hats in the ring.

Indeed, there could be a chance that one of those sides is the destination Martinez ends up at.

Martinez could end Arsenal striker woes

Should Martinez end up at Arsenal, he could end the woes the Gunners have had with strikers of late. Of course, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club for Barcelona after being omitted from Mikel Arteta’s squads and stripped of the captaincy.

Alexandre Lacazette – who has usually played up front since Aubameyang left – has scored just six goals this season. Furthermore, he is out of contract in the summer and will likely leave on a free. The Frenchman recently admitted he is currently in discussions with multiple clubs.

The same is probably true for Eddie Nketiah. The 22-year-old has started just six games this season and his contract is also up in the summer.

To ensure Mikel Arteta is not short on firepower next season it’s expected at least one new striker will be signed.

The likes of Darwin Nunez, Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak, Alvaro Morata and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been mentioned. But for now at least, it appears Martinez is the man taking their fancy.
