Aston Villa target Matthias Ginter reveals stance ahead of potential Premier League move

Aston Villa target Matthias Ginter has refused to rule out a move away from Borussia Mönchengladbach when asked about the recent exit rumours.

The Borussia Mönchengladbach star has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League club in recent weeks. Ginter has been a vital player for the German club throughout the season, featuring 26 times in the league at the heart of the defence.

Now, it is believed Aston Villa are plotting a summer move in a bid to improve their own backline.

Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenburg tweeted that Steven Gerrard is extremely interested in landing Ginter, however the 28-year-old is currently weighing up his options.

And Ginter himself appears to have confirmed this, stating in an interview he has not yet made a decision on his future.

As quoted by Sport1, he said: “I would like to hold back on specific clubs or domestic and foreign issues for the time being. But of course, you talk to different people and you have a few things that are important to you. Then you will see everything else.

“At the moment, I talk a lot with my family and with other people I trust. It’s difficult to come up with a timeline, but I don’t think it will be too long before there’s anything to announce. But whether it will ultimately be in one, two or three weeks – I have no idea.

“I don’t think it will take much longer. If something is fixed, it will also be reported. But until then you have to be patient.”

Matthias Ginter confirms factors to consider ahead of move

Ginter went on to reveal what factors he will consider before leaving his current club.

The German international stated that as well as family matters, it’s important to consider the coaching structure at any potential new club.

“Of course, it’s also about the family environment, that was always great here at Gladbach. In addition, for me it is also about the club itself. About the fact that it has potential and is ambitious. That the sporting role planned for me fits,” he stressed.

“In addition, it is always important for a player that the coach likes you. There are a few sporty things, a few aside from that and ultimately you weigh things up. There will never be 100% security beforehand anyway, but you try to decide as well as possible.”
