Manchester United have been given fresh optimism they will land Kieran Trippier this summer, with a new Brexit ruling forcing his likely departure at Atletico Madrid.

Seeking cover and competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one of new director of football John Murtough’s main objectives this summer. And England right-back Trippier has emerged as the man the Red Devils want as they look to strengthen their options.

The Red Devils looked into his transfer in January, but pulled the plug due to his off-field suspension.

However, they now look ready to up those efforts to land him and reportedly saw an initial bid rejected. That offer was said to be for £10m – an approach that has been quickly knocked back by the LaLiga champions.

Indeed, it’s claimed United have been told to come back with an improved offer if they’re serious about his signing.

All hope is not lost for United though, especially given the claim Trippier has reportedly told England colleagues that he wants to move to Old Trafford.

Furthermore, Mundo Deportivo have revealed that United’s chances have been given a serious lift – and it’s all thanks to Brexit.

That’s because as of June 30, and with Britain leaving the European Union, Trippier will no longer be classed as an EU Citizen.

Therefore as of July 1, Trippier will occupy one of Atletico’s ‘foreign spots’.

However, Atletico’s two-player quota in that regard is already taken with Felipe and Renan Lodi their two allocated.

As per Mundo, that could well back Diego Simeone’s side into a corner; moreso given Trippier‘s apparent wish to return ‘home’.

And the article claims United are well aware of the situation, with Murtough looking to force their hand over his sale.

The article does, however, claim that Atletico are exploring a possible loophole that could yet avoid his forced sale. That’s because ‘there is hope that a new agreement will be produced’ so that players who were signed before the new Brexit rules came in place remain unaffected.

As for Wan-Bissaka, Solskjaer wants to try his current right-back in a more central role in pre-season this summer. That could be on the right of a three-man defence, or as a centre-back in a back four.

West Ham eye Lingard transfer

Meanwhile, West Ham will step up their pursuit of Jesse Lingard in the coming weeks, a report claims.

The Man Utd midfielder got his career back on track with a sensational loan spell at West Ham last season.

A role at Euro 2020 would have postponed a decision over his future, but he has not been included and so has more free time – which the Hammers plan to use to try to land his permanent signing.
