Barcelona director addresses links with Man City forward after personal terms solved

Barcelona director Mateu Alemany has spoken about the club’s potential capture of 21-year-old Ferran Torres.

The Man City forward is a top target for Barcelona boss Xavi as he looks to improve his attack in January. The Spanish giants lost Sergio Aguero to retirement recently, while Luuk de Jong and Martin Braithwaite are not up to scratch.

Xavi’s side believe a deal is there to be struck, despite their financial issues. They will need to offload a couple of players before Torres can join.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the potential move earlier this week. He said Torres had agreed personal terms with Barca.

The Spaniard is eager to represent one of the biggest clubs in his homeland, despite being happy at Man City.

However, there is yet to be an agreement over the transfer fee. City are unwilling to accept less than €60m, whereas Barca do not want to pay more than €50m.

That has led to a stalemate between the two clubs as we head towards the new year.

Alemany was asked about the links during a recent interview with Spanish outlet Sport. He said (via Football Espana): “We have clear ideas. We are going step by step.”

It appears the five-time Champions League winners are keeping their cards close to their chest before the window re-opens.

Torres is not the only City forward on Barca’s radar, as England international Raheem Sterling has also been linked.

On Sterling’s potential move to Catalonia, Pep Guardiola said last month: “If Barcelona are interested in any of our players, I am convinced that they can get them. Barca continues to be an attractive club.

“Barca can use their media to influence signings. They can do what they want, good or bad.”

Star would ‘work really well’ at Man City

Meanwhile, pundit Pat Nevin has tipped Kyogo Furuhashi to join City or Liverpool in the future.

The winger is in electric form for Celtic, reaching 16 goals in just 25 matches this season.

Nevin said: “There’s a lot of clubs that will be watching him right this second. I think he’d be best suited for a Liverpool or a Manchester City. He’d work really, really well there.

“I suspect he would probably have to take a step before he made that one. He would go to one of the other clubs lower down the table, similar to the way Van Dijk did. From Southampton to Liverpool.

“Furuhashi, if I’m looking at Scotland right now, by a distance is the one teams should be looking at.”
