Barcelona star ‘waiting’ on Tottenham as Kane saga rumbles on

Reports claim Tottenham are set to rival West Ham United for Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

Kane’s future in north London is up in the air, with Manchester City still keen to sign the England skipper. There is now an impasse over his price, with the Premier League champions unwilling to fork out £160m for his signature. And, with Daniel Levy not one to back down in an argument, the Citizens may not get their man.

Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that the star forward is available for his side’s Premier League opener. Ironically, the Lilywhites host Pep Guardiola’s men on Sunday.

It is not known if Kane will be given an outing or if the Portuguese will decide against risking him. But Sport are reporting that Nuno has his eyes on 30-year-old Braithwaite.

It is a surprise link given the fact Spurs would be swapping a goal machine for a striker who rarely scores. The Denmark international’s best period in front of goal was with Toulouse.

He bagged 35 in 136 Ligue 1 outings before moving to Middlesbrough. The Teessiders saw just eight goals from 36 outings.

Spells at Bordeaux and Leganes followed before he arrived at the Nou Camp in February 2020. It was a signing that shocked European football.

Three goals from 40 LaLiga appearances proves his doubters were right but now he could be heading to Tottenham.

West Ham hold Braithwaite hope

West Ham have been linked with the Scandinavian for some time. There has been confusion in the media over whether the Hammers have actually made an offer.

Manager David Moyes is known to be in the market for a new striker but has yet to land any targets. The report adds that Braithwaite is aware of West Ham’s interest but is waiting to see what happens with Spurs.

It is unlikely that the Dane would be an exact replacement for Kane as he won’t turn into a prolific goalscorer overnight. However he can play out wide and as a support player for the main striker.

Spurs seem well stocked in those areas, making it even more unnecessary to sign Braithwaite. Wolves are another club thought to be keen while Brighton have also been linked.

However, it was suggested back in mid July that the Esbjerg-born player does not fancy the Seagulls. Should Kane leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Nuno will have funds to spend.

The former Wolves chief would surely set his sights higher than Braithwaite.
