Barcelona target Man City title winner after seeing Wijnaldum transfer hijacked

Barcelona are targeting Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan as an alternative to Georginio Wijnaldum, claims a report.

Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum looked destined to arrive at the Camp Nou ever since they registered their interest in him last summer. But now, according to Fabrizio Romano a deal to Barca is off.

The Catalans have called off the move for Wijnaldum after refusing to increase their salary offer for the player. Unless Barca up their offer the 30-year-old will be heading to Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino has called the player, who officially revealed last month he was leaving Liverpool, to persuade him to move to Ligue 1.

Barcelona thought they had an agreement in place and were understood to have scheduled a medical for the Dutch star. Now though PSG look set to hijack the deal, leaving Barca to look at Gundogan.

Georginio Wijnaldum has decided to join Paris Saint-Germain. Barcelona have NO intention to raise their bid after they agreement ready by 2 weeks and medicals planned.

According to Sport, the Catalan giants look set to miss out on Wijnaldum to PSG, with Gundogan eyed up as a Plan B option.

With Fernandinho’s future up in the air, Pep Guardiola will not want to lose Gundogan.

The Germany international was an integral performer for City in their title victory this season. The 30-year-old hit 17 goals and five assists in all competitions. It was by far his best season in five with the club.

Barca link to Jesus

He remains under contract until 2023 and will be hard to prise away from The Etihad.

The report also claims that Barcelona could move for Gundogan’s City team-mate Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian has struggled to get game time under Guardiola, but with Sergio Aguero signing for Barca he could get more of a chance next season.

Jesus scored nine goals in 22 Premier League starts last season and is under contract until 2023. It’s highly unlikely though that he would want to follow Aguero to Barca and play second fiddle to the Argentinian again.
