Besiktas need Arsenal transfer done on Thursday after lodging ‘official offer’

Besiktas have made an “official offer” for Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny and want to include him on their UEFA list on Thursday.

The Turkish Super Lig side are in a rush to get a deal done for Elneny, so they can register him for their  UEFA Champions League campaign.

That deadline slams shut on September 2, so Besiktas want a deal done as soon as possible. And Besiktas are reported to have made a move for the player they had on loan in 2019/20.

Elneny, 29, made 36 appearances for the Turkish side on loan and impressed in a defensive midfield role.

Now NTV Spor, via Sport Witness report an “official offer” has been forwarded to Arsenal.

The outlet detail very little other than an offer has been lodged with officials at The Emirates.

Besiktas have until September 8 to register new arrivals, but they are hoping to get a deal done on Thursday.

Elneny, who replaced Bukayo Saka at half-time in the recent defeat to Man City, is likely to find game time hard this season.

The arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga means that Elneny will be likely shunted down the pecking order behind Lokonga, Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

The Egypt star was in talks over a new Gunners contract back in April. However, Football.london understands that negotiations were put on hold.

He is out of contract next summer and it’s thought Edu will sanction a move now rather than lose another player for free.

Elsewhere, Roma director Tiago Pinto says the failed transfer raid for Xhaka forms the major basis of his summer regret.

The Serie A side enjoyed a successful summer window to help Jose Mourinho with his first season as manager. Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham’s arrival has proved the highlight.

Xhaka regret for Roma

Meanwhile, former Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio has signed up to the new regime at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, Mourinho wanted Switzerland international Xhaka to complete a triple swoop from the Premier League.

The deal looked close at one point, before Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed he would be staying. In fact, he then signed a one-year contract extension until 2024 with the option of an extra year.

Reflecting on his side’s transfer window, Pinto admitted that he wanted Xhaka in Mourinho’s team.

He told reporters (via Gianluca di Marzio): “The market is closed and today I have fun, because we bought so many players but everyone asks me about the midfielder.

“Everyone knows we were after Xhaka, he wanted to come to Roma, but Arsenal didn’t release him.

“It’s my regret for this transfer market.”
