Bielsa frustrated but picks out one star so valuable to Leeds

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa finally admited he was content to take a point from the draw with Brentford but felt his side showed enough quality to have won it.

The Whites now sit 14th in the table after striking late to earn a 2-2 draw with the Bees at Elland Road. Tyler Roberts gave the Yorkshire outfit a 1-0 half-time lead with a goal on 27 minutes. But two goals in seven second-half minutes turned the match on its head.

Shandon Baptiste netted on 54 minutes before Sergi Canos added another just after the hour mark. It seemed as though the west Londoners would take all three points and increase the pressure on Bielsa.

However, Patrick Bamford came off the bench to net the equaliser five minutes into stoppage time. Bielsa admitted he was relieved to walk away with a point but felt his charges should have taken more.

“To have drawn the game the way we did changes the flavour,” he said, per LeedsLive. “If you look at the game in its general context, we should have won it.

“We conceded the first part of the game, but without receiving any goals. From the initial 15 minutes we had a good half an hour. In the second half, we started it well, and we had incoming and outgoings of Ayling and Phillips.

“A few moments without them. After Kalvin went back on and came back off, that made us lose organisation, but it should not have been this way.

“In those 15 minutes in the second half, we did receive those goals. In the final 30, with a lot more difficulties, but with a lot of perseverance to attack we ended up getting a result that was fair on one side and insufficient if you look at the whole game.”

Bielsa hails Bamford class

Bamford has been sidelined since mid September. He returned to rapturous applause from the home faithful and duly did the business.

The Argentinian coach was delighted with the 28-year-old and finally conceded that a draw was not a bad result.

“Bamford scored a goalscorer’s goal. The sector of the pitch he came on it was hard to find the ball,” he added. “Finally, he gave us the equaliser that, for our expectations, is very valuable, given how we got it. Before the game, it was not a good result.

“After the first half it was not as well, but when the game was finished we had to value what we got.”
