Everton are reportedly pushing ahead with their plans to sign talented Holland full-back Denzel Dumfries, with the club looking to tie up a deal before the end of this week.
The 25-year-old has a contract with PSV until 2023 but it is expected to leave this summer. The Dutch giants are ready to cash in and reports last week claimed the Toffees are very keen on landing Dumfries. Indeed, he is seen by the club as the dream long-term replacement for Seamus Coleman.
The link comes as no great surprise, given that Marcel Brands is the technical director of the Goodison Park outfit. Brands previously worked as a director with the Dutch giants.
Now, according to De Telegraaf, Brands is very much focused on securing the signing of Dumfries. They claim that Brands, despite Everton currently being manageless, is ready to push ahead with his signing.
Furthermore, they state that Brands is keen to tie up the loose ends of the deal before Euro 2020 starts on Friday. It’s reported that greater exposure for Dumfries could increase the competition for Everton. As such, Brands is said to be hopeful he can seal his signing before the action gets underway this week.
In addition, they claim that Dumfries is also keen on a move. Indeed, the report states the player feels the ‘time seems ripe for a nice transfer’.
Holland push Everton into Dumfries action
Another reason for the urgency from Everton’s point of view is Holland’s plans for Euro 2020. As per Sport Witness, the Netherlands have swapped camps, going from the open Huis ter Duin to a remote hotel in Zeister Woods.
As per the report, that hotel ‘is inaccessible to unauthorised persons’, meaning agents are banned and can’t meet with their clients to discuss transfers.
That is at the request of Holland coach Frank De Boer. His tough stance on total focus for the Dutch squad also has seen Georginio Wijnaldum’s free transfer move from Liverpool to PSG hurried through this week.
Wijnaldum is reported to have agreed a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 giants. That move is also due to be announced shortly and before Euro 2020 officially begins.
Dumfries, meanwhile, started his career at Sparta Rotterdam before joining Heerenveen and then PSV Eindhoven in 2018.
He is currently captain of Roger Schmidt’s side and is expected to be Holland’s starting right-back at the Euros.
