Brendan Rodgers told Leicester is ‘far better club’ than suitors Tottenham and ‘under-achieving’ Levy

Brendan Rodgers has been told that he should not consider leaving Leicester for Tottenham this summer, because the FA Cup winners are “a far better football club in many ways”.

That is the opinion of former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, who believes that a switch to north London is not as tempting as it sounds. The former Liverpool chief has been strongly tipped to replace Jose Mourinho as Tottenham’s next permanent boss after the Portuguese was sacked in April.

Rodgers, however, quickly distanced himself from the role, saying how “very, very happy” he is at Leicester.

The 50-year-old led the Foxes to FA Cup glory on Saturday after a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley. Now his focus is to secure a top-four league finish, with another game against the Blues on Tuesday night.

As for Spurs, chairman Daniel Levy has so far met frustration in his bid to land Mourinho’s successor.

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann will take over at Bayern this summer, while Ajax chief Erik ten Hag penned a new deal with the Dutch champions.

That has left the likes of Rodgers, Brighton boss Graham Potter and Fulham’s Scott Parker all in the running.

But Jordan thinks that the Tottenham job isn’t attractive enough for Rodgers to sever ties with Leicester for.

Tottenham a sideways move

“Tottenham is not an upward move for him. It’s a sideways move, to some extent,” he told talkSPORT.

“If you embrace all the ingredients that Tottenham Hotspur should be, it would be an upwards move. But that’s should be, would be, and could be.

“The reality of it is Leicester is a far better football club in many ways. I said this earlier on in the season, Leicester are a brilliant football club and are a better team than Man United, everyone went up in arms at the fact I made that observation and they proceeded to beat United in the cup semi-final.

“Brendan has got the football nous to know when to stick and know when to twist and Tottenham is not a big enough job to potentially jump from Leicester to Tottenham, especially when you have to work with Daniel and work under Daniel’s regime.

“You haven’t got this love in of an owner who will defer to you and give you what you want. You’ve got Daniel who operates how he does, which is at times economically right for Tottenham but right now it isn’t right for Tottenham achievement wise.

“Leicester have done something Tottenham haven’t done for 13 years, that’s win a cup.”
