Chelsea could cash in on key man with former manager ‘desperate’ to lure him away in ambitious move

Jorginho is at risk of being sold by Chelsea this summer, according to a report that claims Maurizio Sarri wants to reunite with him at Lazio.

If a takeover of the club goes through in time, there could be several decisions for Chelsea to make this summer. Braced for the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger as free agents, they will have to work to avoid similar situations in future.

For example, in midfield, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are both over the age of 30 and out of contract in 2023. Chelsea will have to decide whether to offer them renewals or sell them this year if possible.

In Jorginho’s case, a summer sale is the more likely possibility, according to 90min.

The online outlet claims that a return to Serie A is possible for the Brazil-born Italy international. Although they confirm interest from Juventus and AC Milan, they reveal Lazio are the main contenders from Italy.

The connection comes from Sarri, who was the man who brought Jorginho with him from Napoli to Chelsea in 2018.

Now in charge of Lazio, Sarri is supposedly “desperate” to reunite with the deep-lying playmaker at a third club.

While his Chelsea tenure only lasted a single season, Sarri should be entering a second with Lazio. Ahead of that, he will want to reinforce his squad.

Their midfield could lose Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, for example. Jorginho plays in a deeper role, but Sarri knows how to get a tune out him.

Chelsea to take chance to sell Jorginho

Although Jorginho is one of their leaders, Chelsea could cash in on him before his contract runs down. Their own plans to replace him may involve moves for West Ham’s Declan Rice or Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni.

It seems there could be just as much evolution in their midfield as in defence. Another man who could be on his way out is Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who has coincidentally also been tipped to reunite with Sarri in the Italian capital.

Chelsea will have to listen to whatever offers come in and consider the appropriate action in each case.

Jorginho has made 181 appearances for Chelsea, more than any of his other clubs. But Sarri is the most common coach of his career, having fielded him 162 times between Naples and west London.
