Chelsea star eyeing crucial summer exit after long-term Tuchel snub

Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour is eyeing up a loan move away from Stamford Bridge in order to increase his playing time, according to reports.

The Scotland international has found himself out of favour under Thomas Tuchel, playing just two-and-a-half games since the German’s arrival at the club in January. After overcoming a serious knee injury earlier this year, the 19-year-old has sought to establish himself as a regular starter in West London.

In March, he returned to Chelsea’s Under-23s squad in a clash with Leicester as he fought to regain full match fitness, but his efforts to earn a place in the Blues’ midfield have failed to materialise.

Gilmour could look to Mason Mount as a notable Chelsea star whose stint away from the club helped cement his place in the Blues’ first team.

Following successful spells at Dutch outfit Vitesse and in the Championship with Derby under former boss Frank Lampard, Mount earned a regular role and was pivotal in their recent Champions League success.

Another factor behind a potential move away for Gilmour is his international career, with his lack of minutes previously prompting fears of him losing a place in the Scotland squad.

The teenager has recently been selected for his country in the upcoming European Championships, alongside the likes of Andy Robertson, Scott McTominay and John McGinn.

As reported by The Sun, Gilmour is hoping to attract the interest of a number of clubs should he help Steve Clarke’s side progress in their first tournament since the 1998 World Cup.

Despite impressing in a number of games, he is yet to get off the mark on the goalscoring or assist front.

Current Chelsea loanees enjoy great success

Should he move from the club, Gilmour will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of a number of current Chelsea players that have enjoyed significant success on loan from Stamford Bridge.

A notable individual is Fikayo Tomori, who has established himself as a stalwart in the AC Milan defence since his move to the Italian capital in January.

The 23-year-old has impressed so much at the San Siro that the Serie A outfit are considering exercising their option to bring him to the club on a permanent basis.

Another Blues loanee who has attracted a number of potential suitors this season is Conor Gallagher, who was a crucial asset to Sam Allardyce at West Bromwich Albion.

Gallagher played over 30 times for the Baggies in all competitions this year, and as a result has recently emerged as a top target for Leeds United and Crystal Palace.
