Christian Pulisic plots Liverpool downfall to resolve Chelsea FA Cup woes; reveals personal goal

Christian Pulisic has revealed Chelsea’s plan to end their FA Cup woes by overcoming Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the final on May 14.

The Blues have reached the last two finals at Wembley, only to lose to Arsenal in 2020 and then Leicester City last year. Pulisic gave Chelsea the lead against Arsenal two years ago by finishing past Emi Martinez after a nice flick from Olivier Giroud.

However, a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace saw Mikel Arteta’s men lift the trophy for the 14th time in their history.

Pulisic came off the bench versus Leicester but couldn’t help Chelsea to find an equaliser following Youri Tielemans’ long-range strike.

The USA winger has had to deal with injuries and illness this campaign but is now back to full fitness. He could feature when the Blues host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

When asked about putting his wretched FA Cup record right against Liverpool next month, Pulisic said: “Yeah absolutely, that’s the idea. We want to get well-prepared.

Christian Pulisic aims to be ‘100 per cent ready’ for Liverpool

“Obviously we’ve got other games leading up to that. But we want to be 100 per cent ready to go when the final comes around, and I’m going to do my best to play a part in that and hopefully help us win.”

Pulisic also spoke about a personal ‘goal’ of his prior to the Wembley visit. “I want to play as much as I can now, that’s definitely my goal,” the star said.

Another source of determination for Pulisic and Chelsea should come from their Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool in February.

Thomas Tuchel’s side lost on penalties when Kepa Arrizabalaga put his spot-kick over the bar in sudden death.

Pulisic thinks that should give the FA Cup final an extra edge. “Yeah, I think that will be good, we definitely want to play against them again and it will be a really good match, and we’re looking forward already to the challenge,” he said.

“And hopefully we can get on the better side of them.

“There’s not really been much between us in the matches this season, so we’re hoping we can come out on top.

“It’s not going to be easy, it’s probably going to be another one of those games, and hopefully we can just get the edge on them.”
