Contract demands revealed for crucial Chelsea deal after La Liga enquiry

One La Liga club has reportedly made an enquiry for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, whose wage demands have become apparent as a result.

Rudiger is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. Having established himself as a key man for Thomas Tuchel, it would be ideal for Chelsea to keep him. However, they will have to give him a wage rise to do so.

Therefore, the club are currently weighing up what figure to go towards. If they cannot find an agreement, they may have to try and sell Rudiger in January. He will, though, be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club, which would rule out Chelsea receiving money from his exit.

It is clearly an issue that the club need to address immediately. Rudiger is not short of admirers, with Tottenham and Manchester City recently emerging as contenders for his signature.

In Europe, meanwhile, he has attracted interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

One of the latter two may have already made their first enquiries, according to the latest updates from one journalist.

Anton Meana has clarified how much Rudiger – or more likely his representatives – is asking for in his next contract.

“Rudiger’s entourage is asking for €12m clean,” Meana told Cadena SER (in quotes translated by online outlet Sport Witness).

“A few days ago, there was a call from a La Liga club, and that was the answer.

“On top of that price, there would be the signing bonus. The salary they are looking for is that amount.”

At the age of 28, Rudiger knows the next contract he signs could be the last major one of his career. Therefore, he will want to see through the rest of his prime years on the terms he feels he deserves.

Receiving €12m per season would equate to €250,000 per week. Those interested in having his services for next season and beyond – including current employers Chelsea – must decide whether he is worth it.

His importance under Tuchel cannot be questioned, though. Rudiger has only missed one Premier League match and one Carabao Cup game so far this season, not missing a minute when he has been a starter.

Chelsea close to new defender deal

Another operation that may point to Rudiger potentially leaving is the one that will see Trevoh Chalobah sign a new contract.

Chalobah has been a breakout star in the formative weeks of the season. After impressing in the UEFA Super Cup, Chelsea shelved their plans to loan him out for the season.

Now, he is becoming a more important player for their senior side. As such, they want to secure his long-term future.

Chalobah is under contract until 2023. According to Football London, the Blues have been in talks with his representatives over a new deal for some time.

An agreement to secure his services for the foreseeable future is now near.

As for Rudiger, though, there has not been as much progress.
