‘Crying’ Man Utd star ripped apart, but Liverpool man still gets brutal Roy Keane verdict

Roy Keane slammed talisman Bruno Fernandes for “crying” for most of Manchester United’s defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

United lost at home to their arch-rivals for the first time in seven years, the Reds winning 4-2 on Thursday. The hosts took the lead and things got worse for Liverpool when they had a penalty overturned by VAR. However, they came roaring back, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota all scoring.

Marcus Rashford did get one back for the Red Devils to make it 3-2 after Firmino’s second, but Salah – much like his goal against United at Anfield in 2020 – raced clear on the counter-attack to put the game to bed.

As for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, the spotlight has often fallen upon midfielder Fernandes for his contributions – or lack thereof – against the other ‘Big Six’ teams.

He netted the winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup earlier this season. However, he struggled to make an impact at Anfield in the Premier League.

And while he netted a deflected goal on Thursday, Keane blasted the Portuguese for “crying” throughout the match.

The pundit told Sky Sports after confusion over a potential foul leading up to Firmino’s first: “Maybe the referee was confused. Being critical of Fernandes, he spent half the night crying on the side of the pitch.

“Every time he got tackled he was rolling around.

“I think United‘s players are kind of looking for Liverpool to kick the ball out of play, but as we know you’re supposed to carry on unless it’s a head injury.”

Indeed, Fernandes could be heard wailing in agony after a challenge when Liverpool were 3-1 up.

But despite Liverpool’s landmark win, Keane did not spare one of Jurgen Klopp’s men from criticism.

He took Fabinho to task over his role in Fernandes’ opener.

Liverpool star gets Keane treatment

“It was no surprise when they got the goal, Liverpool seemed to be really open for the first 20-25 minutes,” Keane said.

“As dangerous as they were going forward, you thought it’s only a matter of time [before United score]. “Rashford, again, a ball down the side and no danger from Liverpool’s point of view.

“It was poor defending from Liverpool’s point of view. Fabinho, getting back in, you look where Liverpool are and they do have the numbers, it’s about decision-making, football intelligence.

“Wan-Bissaka does well but look at Fabinho, he just runs past the ball. It’s just lack of football intelligence. Really poor mindset.

“I’m not so sure [if Fernandes’ shot was going in], he’s been given the goal. Poor defending from  [Nat] Phillips, he’s got to move his feet a bit quicker.”

Liverpool’s win blows the top-four race wide open after Chelsea’s defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday. The Reds face West Brom next, on Sunday.

United, meanwhile, play Fulham.
