DoF warns goalscoring sensation he won’t fit Guardiola’s style in Man City blow

Manchester City target Dusan Vlahovic has been warned he would not suit Pep Guardiola’s style of play should he opt to sign for them.

Vlahovic, 21, has been firing goals at a rapid rate for Fiorentina in the Serie A over the last 18 months. His contract is up in 2023 and he is set to leave. Tottenham have seemingly emerged as No1 contenders for his signature.

But City have also been admirers in their search for a Sergio Aguero replacement. He is a far younger and cheaper alternative to Harry Kane.

According to his club’s former Director of Football, Vlahovic would not be a match for the reigning Premier League champions, though.

Speaking to Lady Radio (via Viola News), Carlos Freitas said: “Vlahovic? For sure he’ll go to one of the strongest teams in the world.

“In January he’ll be 22 and has numbers that will lead him to a top club. In Italy there are world-class teams: Juventus, Inter and Milan but economically they’re further behind.

“Pay attention to Bayern Munich because Lewandowski is 33 years old and I don’t see three stronger than Vlahovic around: he could be the Pole’s heir.

“Instead, I have doubts about Manchester City because I don’t think he suits Guardiola’s style.”

Freitas was in the position of DoF at Fiorentina from 2016-2019, so oversaw Vlahovic’s arrival at the Italian club in July 2018.

The Serbia international had broke records for former club Partizan Belgrade, becoming their youngest ever debutant and goalscorer.

Despite this, Freitas secured his signature for just £1.76m. Fiorentina are set to profit massively on that investment.

The price Vlahovic has been touted at is €60m. But to get a deal done in January, Daniel Levy is reportedly prepared to go to €70m.

That could mean Spurs pip City to the signing as there has been no response to Levy’s advances from the Etihad as of yet.

New Vlahovic offer tabled

Fiorentina have responded, though. The Italian club’s chairman is preparing to put an improved contract offer on the table for the striker.

That’s according to Firenze Viola journalist Enzo Bucchioni, who states a new mega deal worth €7m per season is being used to tempt Vlahovic to stay.

He has already turned down several offers. And this ploy reportedly won’t work either. Bucchioni states that sources close to the Serbia international’s representatives say ‘nothing will move them’.

And with a renewal out of the question, Fiorentina will have ‘only one other way to go’. That is to sell in January.
