Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastian Kehl has spoken out on a potential Erling Haaland transfer, while further news from Germany has handed Man City a timely boost.

Where Erling Haaland will play his football beyond the summer is one of 2022’s most intriguing football stories. The Norwegian has been simply sensational since moving to Dortmund from RB Salzburg in 2019.

The striker’s tally stands at 82 goals in 85 matches in Germany. That level of return would normally produce a nine-figure transfer valuation, though it’s long been reported a £63m release clause can be activated this summer.

Now, speaking to Sky Germany, Dortmund chief Sebastian Kehl has confirmed the existence of the clause.

Furthermore, he has insisted those angling to know where Haaland will end up might find out very soon.

“There is a release clause, you know, and there is a deadline,” said Kehl (via the Daily Mail).

“We want to make a decision as soon as possible.”

With Dortmund now as keen as any to see the transfer saga reach a speedy conclusion, all eyes will fix on his suitors.

Haaland suitor drops out

The frontrunner at present appears to be Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side are one of a small selection of clubs who have the financial muscle to make a deal happen. And per 90min, they may end up paying above and beyond the striker’s release clause when all is said and done.

It was claimed they could go above £63m if it meant they could pay the sum in instalments. Their reasoning behind that approach stemmed from the fact there will be other costs involved – not least the huge agent’s fee Mino Raiola is commanding.

With additional costs factored in, the Mail claim a deal could cost £100m in total (not factoring in Haaland’s wages).

Providing competition for Man City are believed to be Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich.

However, City have received another piece of good news from Germany regarding Bayern’s interest.

Speaking to Sport1, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn insisted Haaland won’t be joining Dortmund’s great domestic rivals.

“We wouldn’t be doing our job properly if we didn’t look at a young striker like him,” Kahn said (via 90min).

“He’s an excellent forward, and a highly interesting player for the future. But the financial dimensions are beyond our imagination.”

With one of Haaland’s chief suitors out of the running and Dortmund pushing for a quick resolution, it may not take long into the summer window before Haaland signs on at the Etihad.
