Edu turns attention to 35-goal striker – but Arsenal may be pipped again to £33m deal

Arsenal are reportedly already moving on from their Dusan Vlahovic disappointment amid claims Edu is working on a deal to sign Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

The Gunners had been working all month on a deal to bring in Serbian goal machine Vlahovic. A rollercoaster of a month saw Arsenal seemingly land their man having launched a £58m bid. However, the longer the wait went on to wrap up his signing, the more unlikely it seemed that Arsenal would land their man.

And their worst fears were confirmed on Friday when Vlahovic secured a move to Juventus. The player’s agent brutally explaining here, in just four words, why he signed for the Italians.

In light of their disappointment, Arsenal have precious little time to lick their wounds.

Indeed, the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen have all been touted as potential options.

However, FC Inter News (via >The Boot Room) claim Arsenal are now considering a move for Scamacca.

The 23-year-old has scored nine goals in 23 games for the Serie A side this season. Indeed, his form has earned him his first caps for Italy, with Roberto Mancini twice calling upon on the Sassuolo marksman.

That said, Arsenal are not alone in their admiration for Scamacca.

Inter also keen on Gianluca Scamacca

As such, the same report claims Inter Milan are also contemplating a move for the much-travelled frontman before the window shuts.

Finances remain tight at the San Siro, but the Italian champions could fund the move by offering their Serie A rivals some fringe players in exchange.

Furthermore, Scamacca is reportedly more open to a switch to the Nerazzurri.

As such, the Gunners face an anxious wait to see if they can pip Inter to his signature.

Gianluca Scamacca also counts Ascoli, Genoa and Cremonese among his former clubs. In total, he has 35 career goals in 111 appearances.

Arsenal urged to give Aubameyang a second chance

Arsenal’s striker conundrum continues to cause concern for Mikel Arteta and Edu.

Indeed, with Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette out of contract in a matter of months, the Gunners may soon lose two options.

The issue is also compounded by the ongoing exclusion of former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

He has been the subject of failed bids from Barcelona and Juventus this month.

As such, former Gunners midfielder Ray Parlour insists the 32-year-old should be given a fresh crack at Arsenal.

“Of course they need him. But you’ve also got to show your dominance as a manager and say you can’t be doing stuff – especially when you have a young team.

“As a captain you’ve got to set a good example, which is very important,” Parlour said.

“I’d look up to Tony Adams back in the day and he set the example – and not by going to the pub by the way – but by being on time and making sure when you wear that shirt you play for the team.

“Stuff like that you learn as you go along.

“But the young players will look at that and see he’s turning up late and not doing this and will be thinking; ‘Can we do that as well?’

“It’s not a good look for Arsenal Football Club. Arteta’s come down strong on him and now it’s all about the reaction, for me. I’d give him another chance because he’s that good and can score you goals.”
