England star tells team-mates his desire to make Man Utd move happen
Kieran Trippier wants to move back to England this summer and has told England team-mates he is chasing a move to Manchester United.
That is the latest via the Daily Mirror, who claim the 30-year-old right-back wants to return to the north-west after winning LaLiga with Atletico Madrid.
The former Burnley and Spurs defender is currently in camp with the Three Lions and he has “let slip to England colleagues” that he is keen to join United. The feeling from Old Trafford has also been reciprocated and United are understood to have a £15m to £20m fee in mind.
Atletico are not keen on allowing Trippier to leave and the classy defender is under contract in the Spanish capital until 2023. Their title win is understood to have triggered another 12 months on his contract meaning he still has two years to run.
Trippier spent his youth in Manchester City ’s academy but left the club for Burnley. He made 185 appearances for the Clarets before moving to Tottenham in 2015.
United believe there is a deal to be done for Trippier as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks for some serious competition for Aaron Wan Bissaka.
Trippier is seen as a better option going forward and Solskjaer is believed to be pondering a switch for Wan Bissaka.
According to The Sun, Solskjaer wants to see how Wan-Bissaka performs in a more central role. He could either play on the right of a back three as part of a tactical tweak, or even as a centre-back in a back four.
That could open up a role for Trippier on the right and The Athletic (via the Mirror) have recently claimed there has been a change of heart from the player. He was understood to be keen to remain in Spain, but United’s interest has been too good to refuse and he is open to returning to the Premier League.

Solskjaer: United will strengthen
There’s no doubt that United will add to their squad this summer, and speaking to TV2 in his native Norway, Solskjaer has given some insight into what fans can expect from the summer.
“We are second best, but too far behind to threaten those who won. Then we have to strengthen ourselves,” he told TV2 (via the Daily Mirror).
“Of course, something will happen in the transfer window. The world has become very different than 15-16 months ago, but we have to make some moves on the transfer window, but also with the team.
“It is never possible to sit back. You are constantly looking for reinforcements.
“Football is dynamic, so unexpected things can happen such as injuries, illness, something familiar or that someone wants to move.
“You have to take everything possible into consideration and reflection. I will never sit down and think that ‘now the team is the way I want it to be’, because you always see some other players or other teams doing something you want.”
