Euro Paper Talk: Huge offer sent as Tuchel eyes statement start to Chelsea ’empire’; West Ham want Man Utd tormentor

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel eyes a statement first signing as Blues manager, while West Ham want a Europa League star who helped down Man Utd – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

BLUES, MAN UTD EYE VARANE

Chelsea and Manchester United have both offered to pay Raphael Varane double the salary he earns at Real Madrid to move to the Premier League, a report claims.

The Blues are set for another big summer of spending after becoming the new champions of Europe on Saturday. Reports (via The Telegraph) claim that owner Roman Abramovich will back his manager strongly in a bid to help the German create an ’empire’ at Stamford Bridge. Centre-back will prove an important area to address, with Antonio Rudiger’s future uncertain.

What’s more, Thiago Silva may be in line for a new deal (via The Sun) but at 36 years of age, his time at Stamford Bridge is limited.

United, meanwhile, have reportedly made the right side of attack a priority, with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho their top target.

However, the Red Devils also reportedly want to find centre-back Harry Maguire a new long-term partner.

At 28 years of age, Varane looks a fine option to take that mantle for both Chelsea and United. He has become one of the best defenders in Europe after signing for Madrid in 2011, but doubt has emerged over his future.

The Frenchman – who was a key part of his country’s World Cup-winning team in 2018 – has only a year left on his deal.

Madrid have indicated that they would be willing to sell if he decides to move on. Furthermore, Defensa Central claims that they would want at least €70million (£60million) for the centre-back.

For now, though, Chelsea and United have both said that they will double Varane’s salary, meaning he would earn €12million (£10million) per season.

Varane has racked up 360 appearances for Madrid, winning four Champions League crowns and three La Liga titles.
