Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd rival two heavyweights for Europa League nemesis; Arsenal misfits to follow identical escape route

Manchester United have been linked with a striker who scored against them in this season’s Europa League, while two Arsenal players could leave to the same destination – according to Wednesday’s Euro transfer gossip.

MAN UTD WANT GERARD MORENO

Manchester United are ready to make a move for Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno after facing him in the Europa League final, according to Fichajes.

United left Gdansk with disappointment after losing on penalties to the Spanish side. It extended their wait to get back to winning trophies and left them considering how to strengthen in the summer.

The club have decided to keep their faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and will back him in the transfer market. And it seems one man who they came up against in the European final is now on their radar.

Fichajes claim that Gerard, who scored Villarreal’s goal in the 1-1 draw in normal time and converted their first penalty in the shootout, is now wanted by United.

The Red Devils are looking for a new centre-forward despite tying Edinson Cavani down to another year of contract. They have been linked with big-money moves for Harry Kane or Erling Haaland, but Gerard would be easier to acquire.

The Spain striker is 29 years old and has a contract until 2023. His market value will be on the up after his Europa League success and could rise further if he performs well at Euro 2020. But he will still be a cheaper alternative to Kane or Haaland.

United are not alone, though, as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also interested.

Earlier this week, West Ham and Newcastle were linked with Gerard, but it seems he could be aiming higher.
