Euro Paper Talk: New transfer avenue opens up as Liverpool learn €110m duo could leave; English trio make Giroud offers

Liverpool could look towards two Serie A names in their defender transfer hunt, while three English clubs contact Olivier Giroud – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

REDS LINKED WITH INTER DUO

Liverpool could look towards Inter duo Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni as potential defensive signings, according to a report.

The Reds are reportedly in the market for a new centre-back this summer, wanting to avoid losing all their senior options to injury again as they have done this season. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip may be nearing returns, but Liverpool have been taught a cruel lesson this term.

As such, RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate has led the way as regards additions at the back. Leipzig’s CEO has admitted that his club are not in the “driving seat” over the 21-year-old’s future.

However, Liverpool have reportedly hit a stumbling block over paying his release clause and so doubt remains over the deal.

As a result, Italian publication Leggo reports that De Vrij and Bastoni could become transfer options for manager Jurgen Klopp.

Both players are ‘important’ to Inter boss Antonio Conte, but – crucially – are not ‘indispensable’.

The Serie A club will accept €60million (£51million) for Dutchman De Vrij and, at the least, €50million (£43million) for Bastoni.

The pair have proved crucial in Inter’s Serie A title triumph this season, each playing 32 top-flight games.

Both are international stars too, De Vrij having made 43 Netherlands appearances and Bastoni playing four times for Italy.

Inter are in dire financial straits and realise the need to make at least one big sale this summer if they are to ease their worries. While it could be either defender, strikers Lautaro Martinez or Romelu Lukaku could yet leave.
