Everton deal for promising £20m international star almost over the line

Everton’s transfer for Ukraine international Vitaliy Mykolenko is almost complete, with a report stating negotiations are in the final stages.

The Toffees interest in Mykolenko has been reported for some time. Indeed, the club are left bare at left-back, as it appears Lucas Digne is no longer in Rafa Benitez’s plans.

Indeed, Mykolenko looks a promising defender to occupy Digne’s previous role. The Dynamo Kiev man has made 21 appearances for Ukraine, and is just 22 years old.

What’s more, he has assisted three goals in 15 league appearances this season in Ukraine. Contributing going forward would be just as important as defensive work for him at Everton.

It was recently revealed that Mykolenko was having a medical at Everton, ahead of the proposed move.

That is reinforced by a recent report via Sport Witness, that states negotiations are in their final stages. Ukrainian journalist Ihor Tsyhanyk was quoted in the report.

“As far as I understand, the last stage of negotiations is underway. The clubs are very close to completing everything. Mykolenko’s transfer will amount to 20 million,” he said.

As such, Everton fans will hope he lives up to expectation, especially after his proposed Premier League move was branded ‘too early’ by Ukrainian coach Yozhef Sabo.

The deal should be complete at the beginning of January, according to the report.

“Official information on Mykolenko’s transfer to Everton will be after January 1,” Tsyhanyk said.

Digne standing firm amid Newcastle interest

Digne’s apparent spat with Rafa Benitez has left to his omission from the Everton side of late. Indeed, it looks as if he will have to move on, should he want to play football.

However, Digne is apparently not too keen on the idea of joining Newcastle United in January.

Despite likely gaining a pay rise should he move to the Magpies, it is clear to see why he would not want to join.

Indeed, a relegation scrap is not too attractive a prospect for the France international.

As such, it seems Digne is holding out for an offer from a side in a better position than Newcastle.
