Everton eye summer signing with financial boost granted should Lampard mastermind survival

Everton will reportedly grant Frank Lampard a financial boost should he steer them clear of relegation this season, and James Tarkowski could soon join.

Everton’s woes have been apparent this season. Indeed, they have seen limited success with two different managers over the course of the campaign.

Rafa Benitez began the season in charge, but his tenure ended after just six months. At the point the Spaniard was sacked, the Toffees were in 15th place.

Frank Lampard took over in January and got off to a winning start. He inspired his new side to a 4-1 victory over Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round.

Despite losing his first league game in charge, he made amends, when his side beat Leeds United 3-0 the following game.

However, there have not been many positive results since then. Lampard’s side did beat Manchester United 1-0 last time out, to extend their gap from the drop zone.

However, Everton are still just one place above the Premier League relegation places, and only four points above Burnley. Lampard has been delivered some rare good news, though.

iNews reports that should he steer Everton clear of safety, he will be granted a financial boost. As such, he should be able to make some squad improvements and, he would hope, not face the threat of relegation again next term.

Club insiders are reportedly ‘impressed’ with the work he has done so far.

Indeed, it seems that despite a lack of good results, he is doing something right.

Tarkowski an Everton summer target

The report also states that Burnley defender Tarkowski will be targeted in the summer. The Clarets are having some issues of their own, and the centre-back could soon move on.

Not only are they staring down the barrel of relegation, but Sean Dyche – the manager who signed Tarkowski – has just been sacked.

Tarkowski is unlikely to be too keen on the idea of returning to the Championship. As such, Everton could be in with a chance of landing the 29-year-old, especially considering his deal is up at the end of the season.

There is, however, the issue of West Ham and Leicester City interest. Everton may have to contend with those sides should they want to sign Tarkowski.
