Everton given rare piece of good news with positive update on two major transfers

A fresh update has stated that Everton will in fact not have to sell star players Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, contrary to a recent report.

Everton’s on-field problems have been evident for much of this season. The Toffees are currently just one place above the Premier League drop zone.

Furthermore, their form away from home has been a big problem, too. Everton have won just one away league match all season, and under Frank Lampard, they have not won a single point on the road.

Recent reports stated that those issues could be compounded by financial woes. Indeed, the club is struggling under Financial Fair Play rules and the solution to those apparent problems was to sell one of Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison.

Seeing the back of either of those stars would be a massive blow for the Toffees. Despite troubles this season, the pair have been two of Everton’s brightest sparks in recent years.

Both players have had consecutive seasons of scoring 10+ Premier League goals. In fact, the pair sit sixth and seventh on the list of Everton’s highest ever Premier League goalscorers.

However, claims of the Toffees needing to sell one of those stars have been refuted in a Liverpool Echo Q&A.

“I think the important thing to note is that Everton’s financial situation won’t force them into a sale in either case,” journalist Adam Jones said.

“They have ‘comfortable headroom’ with the Premier League over profit and sustainability regulations, so it’s not as if they’re required to sell either player.”

Everton fans will surely be content in the knowledge that their star players will not be forced out of the club.

Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin could still leave

Of course, there is still a chance that one, or both of the star strikers could up sticks.

The threat of relegation is still looming, and it is difficult to see either Richarlison or Calvert-Lewin wanting to stick around and play in the second tier.

What’s more, there have been links between both Everton stars and some big clubs. Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have recently cropped up regarding Richarlison.

Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a while, too. Furthermore, Jones feels Everton may still be in danger of losing out.

“If the Blues want to keep hold of both in that sense, they can, but it just boils down to the individuals themselves you’d imagine. Then, if a suitable offer comes in, then yes Everton would be hard-pressed to say no,” he added.

Indeed, it might not be long before we see the stars moving on to pastures new.
