Everton looking to upset Prem duo in race for trademark Wolves signing
Wolves reportedly face a battle with Everton and Leicester for the signing of Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha this summer.
The 26-year-old is a firm favourite of Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, who believes that his value has ‘more than doubled’ in the last year. As a result, Record (via Sport Witness) reports that the club value the player in the region of €40million. Growing interest in Palhinha has emerged due to his impressive performances this season.
The defensive midfielder enjoyed an exceptional season in the Primeira Liga, providing crucial cover for Sporting’s defence as they won the title.
It’s these qualities that could see the Portugal international become the first signing of a new era at Wolves, following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, the Midlands outfit are set to face stiff competition for Palhinha’s signature from fellow Premier League clubs Everton and Leicester.
Both sides remain interested in the player having ‘made enquiries’ about him in previous transfer windows.
Despite this, Jorge Mendes’ affiliation with Wolves may give them an advantage in the race for his signature.
The Portuguese agent has been instrumental in bringing a number of key players from his home country to the club.
Mendes played a key role in attracting the likes of Ruben Neves, Rui Patricio and Diogo Jota to the Molineux since his work with the club began.
Indeed, Jota caught the eye at Liverpool and secured a £41million transfer to Anfield in September.
Big names may leave Molineux
Nuno’s Wolves departure has sparked rumours of a number of players following their former manager and leaving the club this summer.
A notable player said to be heading for a new destination is midfield stalwart Ruben Neves.
The club will listen to offers upwards of £45 million for Neves, who is being closely monitored by both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Meanwhile, winger Adama Traore could also leave. Although Traore looks set to sign a new contract at the Molineux, a number of clubs have expressed interest in the 25-year-old.
Amongst those vying for Traore’s signature include Liverpool, Leeds United and Manchester City.
