Everton outcast offered fresh start by two Prem clubs
Robin Olsen could yet remain in England despite departing Everton, with Burnley and Brighton reportedly looking at signing the goalkeeper.
Olsen spent last season on loan at Goodison Park but struggled to get many minutes behind first-choice Jordan Pickford. Earlier this year it was reported that he intended on making the move permanent come the end of the season. However, following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure from the Toffees, Sweden’s number one has returned to parent club Roma.
Olsen arrived in England last summer, having been signed by Ancelotti. His shock exit to Real Madrid left the 31-year-old in the lurch.
Olsen and his family were victims of a violent robbery at their Greater Manchester home in early March. This was also reported to be why he didn’t complete the switch to Merseyside.
And whilst on international duty with his country at Euro 2020, Olsen has revealed his dissatisfaction at not receiving more opportunities to play last season.
His future is now up in the air at Roma. But according to Calciomeracto, Burnley and Brighton are ready to offer him a second bite at the cherry in the Premier League.
It is tough to see Olsen gaining his desired playing time at either option. Neither of the two clubs are in the market for a first-choice goalkeeper.
Burnley have Nick Pope firmly cemented between the sticks, whilst Robert Sanchez impressed at Brighton after establishing himself last season.
Both look set to continue in goal for their respective sides in 2021/22, so it seems unlikely that Olsen would entertain the reported interest.
His focus currently will be on his duties for his country. Sweden can top Group E at the European Championships with a win over Poland tonight.
Rodriguez could follow Olsen out the door
Meanwhile, Everton’s fears of losing James Rodriguez have heightened after the news that his agent has offered his services to two Italian clubs and one Spanish side.
Rodriguez was a major coup for Everton when they signed him from Real Madrid last summer. His relationship with Ancelotti was crucial. But with Ancelotti’s recent departure the chances of Rodriguez staying on Merseyside have been called into question.
The attacking midfielder is under contract for one more season. There is the option for Everton to extend that by a further year, but it has also been claimed that Rodriguez could leave for free to reunite with Ancelotti again in Madrid.
The Italian coach seems keen on working with Rodriguez again, but Real Madrid are not his only option if he leaves Goodison Park.
