EXCLUSIVE: Aston Villa keen as West Brom tell star he can leave for right price

West Brom have told Matheus Pereira that he can leave the club this summer, but only for the right offer, TEAMtalk can reveal.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder has been brilliant for the Baggies since initially arriving on loan from Sporting Lisbon in 2019. However, he is now certain to move on after West Brom were once again relegated from the Premier League this past season.

The 25-year-old is now being chased by a number of clubs who are ready to pay for Pereira – with West Brom believed to be looking for at least £15million.

Indeed, whilst West Brom have told Pereira that they won’t stop him leaving – they would have no qualms about keeping him if their valuation is not met – and with Premier League parachute payments, they would be able to cope with the finances if required.

One club who are looking closely is newly promoted Norwich, who could need a replacement for Emi Buendia. Play-off winners Brentford are also believed to be fans, whilst Aston Villa and Brighton have also made enquiries.

It is believed clubs in Portugal, Spain and Germany – where he has played before – are also keen on Pereira.

Pereira urged to join Leeds

Meanwhile, Pereira has also been told to think about pushing for a move back to the Premier League in order to join Leeds United.

The Brazilian netted 11 goals and assisted six in 33 games, finishing as the Baggies’ top scorer. His efforts weren’t enough to keep them up, but he received plenty of praise for his displays.

Now, he is being told to quit the Hawthorns so he can stay in the top flight.

And Kevin Phillips believes a switch to Elland Road would be a fantastic move for the Brazilian winger.

“I think it (signing Pereira) would suit their style,” former Albion striker Phillips told Football Insider (via Birmingham Mail).

“Leeds are an exciting, free-flowing team, you can express yourself in that side. We’ve seen that with players like Raphinha and Jack Harrison this year. They can just go and play with freedom.”

Although, Phillips added the Pereira would have to up his effort if he is to cut it in Bielsa’s demanding system.

“But you have to be prepared to work your socks off. That’s something Pereira would have to take to another level.

“But it’s no surprise that a player like that, of that mould and ilk, is being linked with Leeds.”
