Fabinho picks out ‘special’ Liverpool star he has particular connection with

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho says that he enjoys playing alongside a player as “special” as Thiago Alcantara under Jurgen Klopp.

Brazil international Fabinho made himself a centrepiece of the team following his arrival from Monaco in 2018. As a result, expectations were high when Liverpool announced Thiago’s arrival in September. However, the pair have had little chance to connect in midfield, with Fabinho moving to centre-back amid injuries.

His return to the centre has reinstated his importance to Liverpool, but it has also allowed Thiago to show off his true talents.

The Spaniard has struggled to play his best football this season, not helped by an injury of his own.

However, he recently netted his first Reds goal and put in another fine display against Manchester United.

The pair have subsequently worked to bring the best out of each other and Fabinho has hailed the relationship.

“Thiago is someone special,” the midfielder told Liverpool’s official website. “He’s a really good player and I can have good communication with him between games because we both speak Portuguese, so I really understand Thiago.

“He’s a really good player with a lot of quality and now he’s getting confidence and it’s really important for him because he can play all the games, he can be important for us.

“With Gini [Wijnaldum], I think we did really good work in the last couple of games. We try to be at this level or better for the next games as well.”

Fabinho’s fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino is another player who shined in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over United.

The forward scored twice, either side of half time, to put the visitors in control at 3-1.

Those were the first Premier League goals in 14 games for a player who has faced criticism for his lack of direct contributions this team.

Fabinho hails Firmino for Liverpool

Fabinho said: “Oh man, I’m really happy for Bobby because he’s someone who always plays good football.

“When he can’t score, he can create space for other players or the opportunities for other players. [Against United] he was in the right place in the right moment.

“When the ball came to him, as a proper No.9, he scored two nice goals.

“He’s a really important player for us and the important players show themselves in important moments. I’m really happy for Bobby.”

Liverpool return to action on Sunday to face relegated West Brom at the Hawthorns.
