Fabio Paratici warned of ‘huge risk’ by bringing ‘superb’ attacking star to Tottenham

Tottenham should be wary of making Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic a transfer target if Harry Kane leaves, one pundit has claimed.

Kane’s future at Spurs looks more uncertain than ever before, amid speculation over a move to Manchester City. He has been conspicuous by his absence from Tottenham training this week after holidaying in the Bahamas. Reports claimed that he extended his holiday and could subsequently miss next Sunday’s Premier League opener.

However, he insisted in a statement on Friday that it “hurt” to see his professionalism come into question. He said that he would “never” miss training on purpose.

But Kane could still leave this summer and Spurs supposedly have Vlahovic on their radar as a potential successor. The 21-year-old striker, who moved to Italy from his native Serbia in 2018, has scored 52 goals in 133 career outings.

According to pundit Paul Robinson, though, Spurs should be careful about stepping up interest.

“His record is superb for a player of his age,” the former goalkeeper said.

“He is still so young so that is a massive plus point but he is not tried and tested in the Premier League and for that reason it is a gamble.

“The little I have seen of him, I have been impressed. But would you compare him to Harry Kane? No, you would not even put him in the same bracket. To replace Harry Kane with that type of striker would be a big risk.”

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would undoubtedly like to keep Harry Kane. He could sell, but only for a reported £160million and not to a Premier League rival.

Robinson added that if such funds came in, Tottenham transfer chief Fabio Paratici – who previously worked at Juventus and has strong ties to Serie A – should look elsewhere.

Tottenham warned about Vlahovic transfer

“If you have over £100million coming in for Kane you have to guy and sign someone who is world-class,” the pundit said.

“If they don’t, the team will suffer next season. Spurs have been so reliant on Kane over the last few seasons.

“It would be a huge risk to replace him with someone who is nowhere near his class.”

At Fiorentina, Vlahovic has scored 29 goals in 84 games.

The latest reports claim that he is in talks over a new contract at the Italian club. However, he could be tempted to make the switch to north London.
