Fernandes agent has third big Man Utd issue after jetting in for talks
The agent of Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes had a new contract for his client on his agenda as he flew to England this week.
Miguel Pinho has supposedly been in Manchester running errands, with reports detailing his big priorities. Firstly, Record (via Sport Witness) claimed that he watched United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham on Tuesday. Furthermore, he discussed transfer talks with the Red Devils about Nuno Mendes.
The Sporting full-back, who has caught the eye across Europe, is supposedly a United target.
According to a fresh report from Record (via Sport Witness), though, Pinho also wanted to discuss a contract extension for Fernandes.
The Portugese midfielder has become his club’s talisman since signing from Sporting last January. Indeed, he has scooped a second successive Player of the Year award.
United chiefs also want to reward the 26-year-old for his efforts. But despite the shared view over Fernandes’ future, the report does not detail any progress made in talks.
Previous speculation has claimed that Fernandes is holding off on signing a new deal for two reasons.
He reportedly wants United to bring in two new signings to aid the club’s Premier League title charge next season.
The midfielder also wants Paul Pogba to commit his future at Old Trafford, with the French star approaching the final year of his contract.
Fernandes has more than proven his worth, scoring 40 goals and laying on 25 others in 79 appearances.
This term, meanwhile, he has scored 28 goals in all competitions, bettering Frank Lampard’s record for a Premier League midfielder set in 2009/10.
Fernandes reacts to Man Utd accolade
Speaking after picking up his Player of the Year award earlier this week, Fernandes stressed that team achievements mean more to him.
United play Villarreal in next Wednesday’s Europa League final.
“It means a lot,” he said. “I always said individual trophies are really good for players.

“It lifts you up, of course. I would never say I don’t want individual trophies.
“[But] it’s not more important than a group trophy, a team trophy, for me, but it is always important.”
