Frustrated Man Utd star asks agent to ‘seduce’ Euro giants and secure transfer

Donny Van de Beek is reportedly looking towards Barcelona after apparently instructing his agent to secure him a move to the Nou Camp in a bid to end his Manchester United troubles.

Van de Beek, 24, moved to Old Trafford for a reported £35million last summer. The Netherlands international had gained attention at Ajax, scoring 41 goals from 175 appearances in all competitions. That prompted the Red Devils to make a move and he arrived to much fanfare in August last year.

However, things have not gone to plan for the Dutchman, with only four starts among 19 Premier League appearances. That is in stark contrast to his Amsterdam experience where he was a regular Eredivisie starter.

As such, reports have claimed that Van de Beek is seeking a solution to his problems and seeking to move on.

Now, according to Sport, the Dutchman has set his sights on a move to Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are in the market for a new midfielder, having missed out to PSG for Georginio Wijnaldum. And as per the report, Van de Beek has sensed an opportunity and instructed his agent to sound out Barca over the move.

They state a prospective move to the Nou Camp would ‘delight’ the United man, whose close pal Frenkie De Jong plays for. The report adds that the player is looking for an ‘immediate change of scenery’ and hopes his agent can ‘seduce’ Barcelona into a deal.

However, as per the report, Barcelona are not considering an approach for the frustrated midfielder at this time.

They state that Ronald Koeman and Co are though yet to make a formal response, but will likely consider more defensive-minded midfielders in the first instance.

Van der Vaart suggests Dortmund move for Van de Beek

With his future unclear, another voice has called into question Van de Beek’s move to Man Utd. Furthermore, it is claimed he would’ve been better off joining “a club like Borussia Dortmund.”

“He fit perfectly into the Ajax system, but he doesn’t fit at Manchester United,” former Netherlands attacker Rafael Van der Vaart told ESPN.

“If nobody leaves United [this summer], he will be lucky to get in the starting line-up.

“He’s far too good to sit on the bench for two seasons. He needs minutes very quickly. He is still young, but time flies.

“A club like Borussia Dortmund would have been a better step for him. Manchester United might be a step too far for him.”
