Grealish’s agent deals hammer blow to Man Utd over huge summer transfer

The agent of Jack Grealish has revealed that there are “many clubs” interested in signing the Aston Villa man and says Manchester United are not at the top of that list.

Grealish has had another super season for Villa. After leading them back into the Premier League in 2018-19, he helped them stay up last and has been integral for them this time around. The attacker is currently sidelined with a shin injury. He has missed the last 12 games and Villa have lost six of those and won just three. The 25-year-old has though scored six times and earned 12 assists from 22 appearances and interest in him is hot.

Man Utd have made attempts to sign the England man in the last couple of seasons, but Grealish has stayed loyal to his boyhood club. In fact the Villa captain penned a new contract last September on the back of helping them to Premier League survival. Grealish signed up despite heavy interest from United.

Now with his contract running until 2025, Villa would have a huge opportunity to cash in on Grealish if the player decided to move on.

Jonathan Barnett told SNTV: “The truth is we don’t know [what will happen].

“There are many clubs [interested] and I wouldn’t put Manchester United at the top of that [list].

“But he could stay.

“He could stay as well so it’s a conversation the club, Aston Villa, will have with Jack and ourselves then we’ll see where we go.”

United are still understood to be interested in Grealish as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks for the missing pieces that can help them challenge Manchester City.

However, Barnett’s latest comments suggest there are some other suitors higher in the pecking order to sign Grealish.

It will depend on the player. Villa have moved forward this season after staving off relegation on their return to the top flight last season. However, that may not be enough for Grealish, who could well show off his talents for England at the Euros next month.

Football Insider claims there is a buyout clause in his deal which could see him leave Villa Park if the right fee is offered.

The Midlands club are believed to have valued their star man at no less than £100m (via The Telegraph), and will consider offers of nothing less for their acclaimed academy product.

Man City are also understood to be eager to get Grealish on board. Indeed, previous Football Insider reports have claimed that Pep Guardiola has identified him as his top transfer target.

Decision time for Grealish

Barnett hinted over the weekend that Grealish has a big decision to make this summer.

Barnett told Sky Sports: “He loves Villa, but I think we just have to wait to see how things pan out.

“At the moment he is a Villa player and he has had no thoughts about anything else.

“We have to do what is best for Jack and for everybody else.

“I think he is a very special player. I think he maybe should have been playing for England a little earlier.

“It is unfortunate that he has got this injury at the moment but that will be fine. He has got a great mentality.

“On the field, he knows exactly what he wants to do, how to do it.

“I think he could be a big star in the summer. Only hope that he is given a chance and that will be great.”
