Haaland drops subtle hint over plans to leave Man Utd, Man City in limbo

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is playing it cool and seems happy to make possible suitors wait for news of his future plans.

The 20-year-old is at the centre of a transfer tussle, with a few big-hitters desperate to get him on board. The Norway international has ripped up the rule book for a player of such tender years. Having scored for fun with RB Salzburg, he hit the ground running with Dortmund after arriving in January 2020.

The Leeds-born ace scored 16 goals from 18 appearances in all competitions in the second half of last season. However, he eclipsed those figures in 2020-2021, notching 41 times from as many outings for BVB.

The Norwegian starlet is set to shine at this summer’s delayed European Championship. He has already found the net six times from ten international outings.

And a stellar showing over the next few weeks will only increase the clamour surrounding his future. Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona and Manchester City have all been linked.

But last week, the son of former Leeds star Alf-Inge Haaland seemed to suggest he might not be going anywhere.

“Well I have a contract for a couple of years, so I am respectful towards my contract,” he told Viaplay. “I am a simple guy. When I like something I just want to have more – when I score a goal, I always chase the next goal.”

Haaland has summer mapped out

There is no question that Haaland is one of the brightest prospects in European football. He has an incredible eye for goal and bagged a hat-trick for Norway as they beat Romania 4-0 in November last year.

His next task is to face Luxembourg and Greece in friendlies ahead of Euro 2020. And it appears as though all the fuss about where he might ply his trade next season is of little concern.

“I have not taken a position on that,” he told reporters (via Goal). “After this international break I will go on vacation, and then I will report for pre-season.”

It is thought that Haaland might spend one more season with his present employers before moving on in 2022. The Westfalenstadion seems the ideal place for him to develop, without the pressure of playing for a European heavyweight.

That will come at some stage of his career when any interested club will need to dig deep to land the Scandinavian.
