Norwich City’s captain Grant Hanley has agreed a new four-year contract extension with the club as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

The Canaries bounced back to England’s top flight at the first time of asking having been relegated in 2019/20. They did so in style, amassing an impressive 97 points. Ultimately, the club’s board’s decision to keep faith in manager Daniel Farke was proved to be the correct one.

Hanley, 29, was an influential figure in the Championship title victory. He missed just the first four games of the season, which was an injury-enforced absence.

And now he has committed himself to the East Anglia outfit for another four years.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Norwich boss Daniel Farke said: “It’s great news for us. We’re absolutely delighted to have Grant with us for the coming years.

“I have been working with him for many years now and it has been a joy and a pleasure. He’s a great character and also our club captain. He is a great footballer and a great personality in the dressing room.”

Hanley broke through at Blackburn Rovers and made 200 appearances for the Lancashire side before a switch to Newcastle in 2016.

Despite signing a five-year deal with the Magpies, the Scotland international started just five league games under then manager Rafael Benitez.

As such, he joined Norwich after just a year in the north East, which the centre-back explains has been a rewarding decision.

After signing the contract, Hanley said: “I’m very grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given.

“Since the moment I walked through the door, it’s been so welcoming and they’ve made me feel part of something.

‘To commit my future here means a lot to me and my family as well. My partner loves it here and it’s such a nice place to live.

“I have a little girl now who’s nearly a year old. Everything about the place is great and I’m really pleased.”

Interest in Hanley’s teammate reignites once more

Meanwhile, reports claim Atletico Madrid will move for Hanley’s teammate Max Aarons if Kieran Trippier leaves to join Manchester United.

Trippier won LaLiga with Atletico last season and has been strongly linked with a move to his boyhood club.

Should that move happen, Atletico will need a replacement and have their eyes on the Canaries’ starlet, according to The Mail, per the Mirror.

But they are not the only ones, with another of their Premier League rivals also being credited with an interest.
