Harry Kane has been warned that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy “won’t give in” and “doesn’t do emotions” as the striker pushes for a transfer away from the club.
Kane failed to report for Tottenham training on Monday or Tuesday. He was expected back at Hotspur Way following an extended holiday after Euro 2020. Before that competition began, he indicated a desire to leave and is now pushing for that to happen.
The England captain is yet to win a major trophy and does not want to end his career with any regrets. At the age of 28, he still has a good few years left at the top, so wants to make the most of them.
He has been heavily linked with Manchester City, although signing both him and Jack Grealish for more than £100m each in the same transfer window may be too much even for them.
But Kane believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with Levy to let him leave this summer.
Now, though, the striker has been warned by ex-Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp just how difficult it will be to get Levy to sanction his departure.
“You’re dealing with a very cold, calculated man when it comes to business,” Redknapp told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Daniel doesn’t do emotions. He doesn’t do feelings. I know what he’s like.”
Man City have already had a £100m bid rejected, according to reports. That was not enough to convince Levy, who does not want to sell his star man to a Premier League rival.
City will have to up their offer to get their man and Redknapp thinks Levy will continue to stand in Kane’s way until they do.
“Unless [Kane] has got a clause and an offer of £120m which says he can go, then whatever, fine; he’s got an argument with Daniel,” he said.
“But what Daniel is going to be saying is, ‘yeah, I said you could go but it’s the valuation – and they’re not meeting it, so you’re not going’.
“It’s a difficult one. I love Harry Kane – what a professional, what a guy. But I just think he’s in a very difficult position here because he’s with a man who just won’t give in.
“You either meet the deal or you don’t get the player – that is that, I promise you. That isn’t going to change. He [Levy] won’t budge.”
Kane backed to win Champions League with City
Kane’s potential suitors City were dominant in the Premier League last season. However, they fell short of winning the Champions League by losing to Chelsea in the final.
For all their growth over the past decade, the European tournament remains the one that is eluding them.
However, Redknapp thinks the addition of Kane would make the difference for City – if it is at all possible.
“I think he’ll take them on – they’ll win the Champions League with him in the team – but if he stays at Tottenham, it’s not going to be easy.
“Levy will try to play hardball for sure. Knowing the man, he’s going to be difficult to deal with.”
