‘I genuinely mean that’ – pundit backs Arsenal man to wreak summer transfer havoc

Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney deserves no place in a rotting Gunners team and should “get out” this summer, according to one pundit.

Mikel Arteta is facing renewed calls for his sacking after Thursday’s Europa League exit to Villarreal. The Spanish manager had met anger over his team’s poor start to the season, but the landscape has shifted again. Now, fresh doubt has emerged over whether Arteta has it in him to properly lead Arsenal’s progression.

Arteta is likely to stay in the job – at least for the first part of next season – and the summer transfer window will therefore prove a crucial turning point either way.

Should Arsenal bring in more new recruits and turn their form around, Arteta will have faith restored in him.

However, one pundit believes that one star should put his club further in reverse by leaving for a “bigger club”.

Tierney has already proved his worth since signing from Celtic. According to former Hibernian man Tam McManus, though, the full-back is “wasted” at the Emirates Stadium.

“There is just nothing about them, they are spineless, honestly. Kieran Tierney needs to get out of there. For me, he is too good for Arsenal,” the pundit told PLZ Soccer.

“Kieran Tierney can go and play for anybody in the Premier League, I genuinely mean that. Arsenal, for me, are a top-eight team or maybe a top-six team at best.

“He needs to get out of there and I think this summer, possibly a few bigger clubs in for him for bigger money and he can maybe move on.

“I think he is wasted there, he is too good for Arsenal.”

Arsenal facing crucial few months

Arsenal’s best hope of saving their season was winning the Europa League.

Not only would that have boosted Arteta’s credentials, but it would have ensured lucrative Champions League football.

Indeed, the Gunners’ European exit means that there is now only a glimmer of hope of playing any continental football at all next term.

They sit 10th in the Premier League table, six points behind sixth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.
