Jamie Carragher mocks Gary Neville after U-turn over preferred Man Utd XI

Jamie Carragher has mocked fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville after the former Manchester United man changed tact with his preferred line-up.

United were humbled 4-2 at Leicester over the weekend – a result which prompted heavy criticism from Neville.

Two late goals from Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka wrapped up a comprehensive victory for Leicester in a game win which United were second best.

And afterwards Neville called for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to put more “workhorses” in the side after criticising United’s work ethic off the ball.

Neville was asked on Twitter during a September Q&A what his preferred United XI with every player fit and available was.

His reply was to include Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

But following the defeat to Leicester, Neville changed his mind. And has now suggested Solskjaer gets more hard workers in his team rather than flooding it with attacking talent.

And Carragher was quick to point out the inconsistency, tweeting: “You literally picked a team with 5 attackers in 2 weeks ago.

“@GNev2 all over the place, the lot of you,” before adding three laughing-crying emojis.

“That was before Villarreal and Everton at home,” replied Neville.

“Not in this run of games. Nuance is lost on Twitter or with you.”

Carragher followed up by quoting his tweet and wrote: “Nuance,” along with three more laughing-crying emojis.

Neville was unhappy with the work-rate of Solskjaer’s team at Leicester and believes United’s players do not work as hard as their Liverpool and Man City rivals.

“The great players are able to do it both ways. But those players are biased to the attacking side of the game, they just are,” Neville told Sky Sports.

‘United off the ball aren’t good enough’

“What they need is to have the work ethic of [ Manchester City ‘s] Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne, [Liverpool’s Roberto] Firmino and [Sadio] Mane, players who are world class, who work like absolute dogs every single game.

“I don’t see that at Manchester United with some of their talented players.

“When I think of the names I mentioned in that Manchester United team they don’t work as hard as Mane, Firmino, De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva so better players and works harder means you’re going to finish higher than them simple as that so you better start working as hard as they do.

“Manchester United at this moment in time are imbalanced. And the performances are now getting what they deserve in terms of results and it needs to change.

“The performances need to be a lot better and today [at Leicester] it was no surprise.

“I think the performances over the season haven’t been good enough. Even if they’re winning against Newcastle – even when everyone was getting carried away it wasn’t good enough that day.
