Juventus announce exit of Andrea Pirlo and have successor lined up

Serie A giants Juventus have announced the departure of head coach Andrea Pirlo after just one season in charge.

The Italian, who previously played for the Turin side, was appointed as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement in September.

But he could only guide the club to a fourth-placed finish in Serie A, ending a run of nine successive titles.

Pirlo did win the Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia, but it was not enough to keep his job.

A statement on the Juventus website said: “Pirlo has just begun the first steps of what will no doubt become a brilliant career as a coach. An adventure of transformation, seeking, and often managing, to bring his ideas and his experience as a champion on the pitch from the ‘other side’ of the fence.

“And since in football, what counts are the victories, let’s remember them: in the space of a few short months Pirlo’s Juve has raised two trophies: The Italian Supercup and the Coppa Italia. And he, as coach, brought home brilliant victories on the most prestigious of fields, from San Siro to Camp Nou.

Good luck, @Pirlo_official and thank you for these emotions!

“For the courage, the dedication, the passion with which he demonstrated every day, our thanks go to the ‘Maestro’. The coach and to Andrea, that really comes from the heart, as well as our good luck for the future that will surely be a wonderful one.”

Allegri’s Juventus deal done

According to several reports in Italy, Pirlo is now in talks with Sassuolo.

It is another one of the top clubs in Europe that will be having a managerial change this summer, with Antonio Conte leaving Inter Milan and Zinedine Zidane exiting Real Madrid.

Former boss Massimiliano Allegri has been heavily linked with a return to the club he left in 2019.

In fact Football Italia report that Allegri signed a three-year deal with Juventus on Thursday. His return to the club will be announced on Friday with an official statement.
