Klopp dodges ‘unfair’ Liverpool question with expletive jibe after top four sealed
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refused to reveal what he thought was his side’s lowest moment of the season, focusing instead on their top-four triumph.
The Reds beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in front of 10,000 returning fans on Sunday to finish third in the Premier League. Chelsea lost to Aston Villa, while Tottenham beat Leicester as the Champions League race unfolded. Such a scenario looked unlikely with 10 games to go, when Liverpool sat eighth.
However, Liverpool won eight and drew two of their final 10 games to mount a resurgence.
Amid a windy day at Anfield, Klopp described his side’s afternoon – in which Sadio Mane got both goals – as “perfect”.
He told Sky Sports: “Perfect. It was windy like crazy. It’s not good for football.
“We found a way into the game, scored a great goal. Do you take more risk, or control even more? The second goal was so helpful. I didn’t know about other matches.
“I’m so proud of what they’ve done the last 10 or 15 hgames and the reaction of the team in bad times. Eight wins out of 10, two draws, that’s impressive.
“Energy makes all the difference and we got a lot of energy from outside [the fans].
“It was not our year for the championship. I’m really happy with third place.”
Liverpool falling to eighth in the Premier League came after several punishing developments earlier in the campaign.
They lost Virgil van Dijk to a serious knee injury in October and he has not featured since. However, fellow centre-backs Joe Gomez and Joel Matip then suffered season-ending problems.
If that wasn’t enough, the lack of fans crippled the Reds’ intensity. After a 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Anfield ended their 68-match unbeaten run at Anfield, they lost five more in a row at home.
As such, asked to name what he thought was his lowest moment of the season, Klopp dodged the question.

“I don’t want to pick one – it will be unfair to all the other [expletive] moments,” he said.
“I have a holiday – it feels like the season was two years long. In three weeks I can’t wait for the pre-season again.”
Liverpool can look forward to playing in the Champions League again next season, alongside Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.
