Klopp refusing to give up as Liverpool talks ‘opened’ for prolific Dortmund target

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with representatives of RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi as the deadline for Borussia Dortmund to bid nears.

The 20-year-old is one of European football’s brightest prospects after enjoying a breakout season for Die Roten Bullen. Already capped three times by Germany, the talented youngster has bagged 16 Austrian Bundesliga goals in 2021-2022. He has 20 in all competitions and opened his international account with a goal against Armenian in a World Cup qualifier last September.

Unsurprisingly, many clubs have shown an interest. Chelsea joined the Reds in being linked while Dortmund appeared to hold all the aces.

With Erling Haaland likely to depart in the summer, BVB are looking for attacking reinforcements. But, with Adeyemi’s price tag reportedly hovering around the £35m mark, their interest seemed to have cooled.

Indeed, a report late last month suggested that the German giants had until Easter to firm up their interest.

Failure to do so would result in the door being opened to other suitors. Sky Sports Austria are reporting that, although an agreement is in place for Dortmund to sign the striker, nothing has been finalised.

That has cleared the way for the Anfield giants to enter the picture. And the Merseysiders are said to have opened dialogue about a possible summer move.

The report adds that Jurgen Klopp’s side are ‘quietly confident’ they can land their target.

Adeyemi ready for next step

Despite his tender years, Adeyemi has already notched 39 league goals, with 15 bagged while on loan with FC Liefering. The Munich-born starlet certainly has an eye for goal and seems to have a profile that fits Klopp’s eye.

Uncertainty over the future of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino mean Klopp is already on the lookout for the next young superstar. Liverpool have done business with Salzburg in the recent past, with Takumi Minamino signed in 2020.

And it could be that they turn to Austria once again in the off-season. Paris Saint-Germain are another club who hold an interest.

But they will all need to beat Dortmund to his signature, as long as the Bundesliga outfit get their act together sooner rather than later.
