Leeds take aim at teenage sensation – but Italian offer turns head leaving Bielsa hanging

Leeds United have made an offer for a teenage sensation but face an anxious wait after his head was turned, as per a report.

The Yorkshire club have already had one youngster, 21-year-old Brenden Aaronson, on their radar in the January transfer window. And it seems youth remains the order of business for Marcelo Bielsa before Transfer Deadline Day rolls around on Monday.

After having to let a deal for Aaronson go until the summer, the Whites boss has turned his attention to right-back Calvin Ramsay, 18.

The Scot has become very highly-rated since breaking through for Aberdeen this season.

Indeed, the Premier League trio of Newcastle, Watford and Leicester have all expressed an interest in him. And the latter even had a bid turned down.

But it now appears to be a two-horse race for Ramsay’s signature, according to Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio.

He claims Leeds are in competition with Serie A side Bologna – and they have put forward two very similar packages to Aberdeen.

Leeds’ is said to be worth €3.5m plus bonuses and a high percentage of any sell-on fee. Ramsay would remain in his home country on loan for the rest of the season, though.

In contrast, Bologna want to take him a loan-to-buy deal that totals €5m. Their offer includes a lower percentage on the future resale.

Despite that, Ramsay himself prefers moving to Italy because he sees it as a better next step for his career.

What’s more, he’d be linking up with compatriot Aaron Hickey, 19, who has progressed well there since leaving Hearts in 2020.

However, Aberdeen are ultimately in control of his future. With the clock ticking down on the window, they are expected to make a decision imminently.

Leeds face further rejection

Missing out of Ramsay would be a second straight setback for Leeds. They were also one of two clubs to be turned down by Liverpool for Takumi Minamino.

The Japan international has rarely featured in red this season. This time last year that meant he went out on loan to Southampton.

That won’t be the case this year, though. The PA news agency are reporting that Liverpool have rejected bids from Leeds and Monaco for Minamino.

Leeds could therefore end January without a new signing if Ramsay joins Bologna.
